According to our SOS, Liaison Officers are expected to be confirmed by the General Assembly. From this perspective, the Board will propose the confirmation of the Liaison Officers in the next GA of ESN.
The role of the Liaison Office
With a particular 2-year mandate, the position of the Liaison Officer is conceived to turn ESNers into experts within our network in a particular field between the education and youth realms. They have a key role in advising the Board and the Headquarters in their field, and they support the development of our key positions in their different fields of action. The Liaison Officer needs to have a strong interest in policy topics, a curiosity to explore new fields and carry out personal research, a passion for external representation, and a high level of commitment since the role is fascinating but quite demanding.
In addition to physical events, representation opportunities such as webinars or online debates also happen quite often, so flexible working/studying conditions are preferred. It is really important to be honest regarding availability in the application process, as the Liaison Office is conceived to be an extremely rewarding but demanding position!

It has been an amazing experience to listen to all the amazing practices you have in your National Organisations over the past months - you are not only sharing with your peers, but also building the future of the Network! Based on this, together with NEC, we believe it's time to showcase the strength of this community and the work we have been doing, and bring it together with these best practices.
We are collecting best practices in two fields:
- Knowledge Transfer: practices that can be used during both transition periods, but also in moments of training or when we try to inform our sections about specific topics. How do we transfer the knowledge between levels and between volunteers in our National Organisations?
- Volunteer Wellbeing: practices that help to guarantee good conditions, physical, mental, or others, for our volunteers, for them to be able to practice their activity without compromising any part of their own wellbeing.
Our goal is to create materials that gather best practices and their implementation to provide opportunities for other NOs and/or local sections to develop new processes with their own structure. To do so, click on the topics to access a Google Form to submit the best practices.
Deadline: 25/05

After four successful editions, ESN has once again partnered with EAIE to help organise their annual conference!
Today, we are coming with great news: the possibility to participate as a conference volunteer in the next EAIE annual conference, which will take place in Glasgow from the 8th to the 11th of September. We have around 15 spots guaranteed and if you want to take one of them, check the details below!
The European Association of International Education and its annual conference
For more than a decade, the Erasmus Student Network has participated in the Annual Conference of the European Association for International Education, the biggest conference on the whole continent in the fields of internationalisation of Higher Education and student mobility. The conference provides a unique opportunity to present some of our key initiatives and engage with many of your Universities, National Agencies and European stakeholders in the field. Normal participation in the conference costs more than 900 euros, so you can imagine the level! During that week, the EAIE conference is the place to be for anyone interested in student mobility and internationalisation.
As an organisation, EAIE is a long-standing partner of ESN. We are often invited to contribute to their magazine and blog and we also participate in many of their online events. In 2020, ESN and the EAIE signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen our collaboration even further. Last year, EAIE joined EGM Ancona and even co-presented a session on a plenary about a joint effort with ESN in a research publication.
Be a volunteer at the conference! Conditions for participation
Every year, EAIE collaborates with some Universities to have student volunteers supporting the on-site organisation of the conference. Last year, we sent a big international delegation of volunteers and this is our goal for this edition as well.
All the conditions of the volunteer role are explained in these two documents - they are short, but please read them in full:
EAIE also prepared a document so you can ask for financial support from your University:
In short, some things to take into account:
You will have to be fully available in Glasgow from the 6th to the 11th of September, both of them included, and from 07:00 to 19:00, which is a full week. This does not mean that you will have to be working all those hours since there will be different shifts depending on your role, but you do need to be available. Compared to previous editions, this year there will be more volunteers, so the role is not extremely demanding, therefore you will also have a significant amount of time to discover the conference as well.
Unfortunately, travel arrangements or accommodation are not covered. However, at the end of the conference, you will receive a compensation of 350 euros if you have respected the agreement, which can hopefully be used to cover your travel expenses. Packed lunches, snacks, coffee, etc are all covered.
How to apply: conditions and process
Any active ESN volunteer can apply, but following the recommendations from EAIE, students or recent graduates are preferred. Based on our past experience and a new agreement with EAIE, the priority will be given to the ESNers who are active on the national level and/or are involved with the topic of Education. However, all our volunteers have a chance! What is most important for us is that our volunteers respect the contract that they sign with EAIE.
In the motivation letter, it is important that you explain why you want to participate and why your participation will be beneficial for the network (maybe you plan to organise an EGM or another important event, or you are active in the education field and want to learn more about how institutional networking is conducted in the field).
If you want to participate, please fill in THIS FORM by Sunday, 17th of May, 23:59 CEST.
