The Innovative Thinking Lab Series is a participatory, design-based training format that empowers youth leaders to explore complex societal challenges collaboratively. The Labs Series includes two optional Labs:
The first Lab “Youth Movements in Times of Political Polarisation” will take place in Timisoara, Romania, between the 11th - 15th of February, 2026.
The second Lab “Fake news, Digital and Media Literacy” will take place in Paris, France between the 26th - 30th of March, 2026.
About the event
Organised as a joint Voices of Change project initiative between the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, the Labs brings together passionate youth and experts from across Europe to strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration, and design real-world initiatives relevant to Youth Work.
The Labs function as learning and co-creation ecosystems: participants investigate real challenges faced by youth movements, exchange experiences across diverse contexts, and collaboratively design solutions or prototypes (frameworks, tools, campaigns, or guidelines).
Each Lab blends critical reflection, creative exploration, and applied innovation, resulting in both personal growth and tangible outputs that can inform organisational strategies and educational practices.
Common aim & objectives:
Deepen understanding of the Lab’s core theme and its relevance to youth organisations.
Strengthen critical thinking, reflection, and ethical reasoning in addressing complex social issues.
Promote collective intelligence through peer exchange and cross-context learning.
Equip participants with design thinking tools and participatory methods for innovation.
Facilitate dialogue between participants and external experts to connect practice with policy and theory.

It is that special time of the year again! The registration for the Training for Trainers - Eduk8 Starter 2026 on the topic “Resilient Voices: Youth Work in Times of Change” is now open until Monday, December 8th, at 23:59 CET!
This year’s Starter will take place between the 23rd of February and 1st of March (with the 22nd of February and 2nd of March being the designated travel dates) at the Korzkiew Center, in Krakow, Poland.
Topic:
This year’s Eduk8 Starter will be structured around the topic “Resilient Voices: Youth Work in Times of Change” and it will be co-funded by the European Youth Foundation. The 2026 edition is aimed at strengthening the capacity of young people to develop and deliver youth work in contexts of rising social tension, political polarisation, and shrinking civic space. The theme of the Starter training event will therefore focus on the impact of youth work in shrinking civic spaces as well as how to address politically sensitive contexts through non-formal education methods.
During the event, participants will become familiarised with ways of identifying when civic space is under threat and will have the chance to learn how to effectively facilitate dialogue in a polarised environment. Participants will also learn how to respond constructively to conflicting narratives in their communities and support young people affected by these dynamics.
The participation fee for this training is 175 euros
Financial Assistance
Selected participants can be reimbursed for their travel expenses, within a maximum amount of 175 EUR in total. The participants will be reimbursed for their travel expenses only after the event has finished, according to ESN’s reimbursement rules, which can be found here.
*Please note that, in order for participants to be eligible for the financial assistance, as well as the final attendance certificate, their presence for the entire duration of the event is required. Exceptions will be done only in special circumstances and with prior notice and confirmation from the Organising Committee and Content Team.
Registration
Registration is in two parts:
Step 1: Complete the online registration form here, until the status shows "Complete".
Step 2: Complete this application form by making a copy in your drive to fill it in, and send it to madalina.bandarau@esn.org, tiago.nunes@esn.org and vp-development@esn.org
Without completing both steps for the registration, you will not be approved as a participant.
Please title the file with your first and second name, followed by "Starter 2026 Application" (Ex: "John Smith - Starter 2026 Application.pdf").
Approval
The selection of participants will be made by a selected group of members of the ESN International Secretariat and ESN Eduk8 Team.
The selection will be made based on:
Motivation to attend: We will look into the motivation of each applicant to attend based on several perspectives (personal, ESN-related and professional). We especially value the applicant’s motivation to use the skills gained at Eduk8 Starter for the further development of our network (at the local, national and international level).
Experience in non-formal education (NFE): We will focus on selecting participants with prior experience with non-formal education, in both attending the workshops and longer training events within this framework, in and/or out of ESN.
Future engagement: We will value a clear intention to use and share the knowledge gained (for example by organising NFE activities or supporting training initiatives in their section or country)
Balance of countries with ESN Eduk8 community members: We will prioritise applications from countries that are not or are merely barely in Eduk8 at the moment, granted that the applicants show a basic knowledge on NFE and relevant motivation and background.
Gender balance: In the midst of all of this, we will still aim to have a gender-balanced group.
*Please keep in mind that the above-mentioned criteria serves as guiding principles and the application will be assessed as a whole.
For any questions, please reach out to our Youth Work & Events Assistant at madalina.bandarau@esn.org.
Good luck with the applications!
